Today I will be telling about a man that I met when I was thirteen and we became the best of friends. He taught me many lessons even if I did not realize at the time that is what he was doing. Jeff is a minister who He lives in Canton, Ohio, with his wife and two girls. If I could describe Jeff in one word is would be loving. I spent a lot of time with Jeff and his family in which they really did become like my second family. I went a lot of places with Jeff, for you see along with being a pastor he is also “Jeff Conley the Magician” and I got to be his assistant and worked for him in many different areas. I admit sometimes I would get frustrated with him though because he also took time for people even if that meant being late to his next meeting. I myself am the type of person who does not like to be late to anything and in fact I will typically be there 20 minutes beforehand. I would have the tendency to say, “Hey, man, I would love to help you but I got a meeting to get to so maybe next time.” But not Jeff. He would stop and truly minister to the people who asked for his help because he knew that loving people is what really makes a difference and opens doors for the chance to share Christ. You see Jeff understood this verse John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Jesus loves us and Jeff also knows how Jesus lived. Jesus took time for people no matter what He had on the to-do list that day with His disciples. He always made time for people along the way. So the thing that I most want to copy Jeff in is the way that he puts himself last and loves people, he stops to help them and care for them; he stops his busy schedule to listen and love why so that he can share Christ with those he helps. John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. This is why I want to learn to love as Jesus and as my friend Jeff because then people will know I am a follower of Christ. Jeff has challenged and pushed me to love others and to grow in my love for the Savior. That is where Jeff finds his joy in the person of Jesus Christ and I pray that I can as Jeff does find my joy in Christ so I can truly love others as Christ does.
